Me

Tue Oct 21, 2008, 9:16 PM
Hmmm... I utterly hate trying to write a decent, well-rounded bio, so I guess I'll hit the highlights-

Obligatory Camwhoring Pic: This is my ugly mug with my wife, who is much prettier than I, at the Texas Renaissance Festival.

Old Fartness and general errata: I'm 35, rapidly sneaking up on 36, a Sinsearaí, and probably one of the more eccentric people I know due to the odd mix of careers, hobbies, and interests. I am what is colloquially called a "closet geek", with an inner geek installed next to the aforementioned-elsewhere emotionally scarred Valium-popping inner child :D .

job-stuff: I'm a security contractor (PSD specialist), which basically means I am a glorified, seriously overpaid (not complaining) babysitter, and headed back to work in law enforcement for the sheriff's dept. Meh, a job's a job.

Family: I married (in style!) my former partner (can you ask for a better wife than the woman who covered your butt in hot spots for three years, outshoots you with a sidearm [though I am still better with an M4 :D ], cooks a mean spaghetti, and loves Aikido? I think not! :D ) who is a former MP who served with me in the National Guard. We have substituted four very screwball cats (and two new kittens) for children, but we're working on the first of hopefully four-to-six bipedal (and probably just as screwball) ones.

location: I live in rural Montgomery County, Texas, on the outskirts of a town called Conroe, about fifty miles northwest of Houston.

Hobbies: gaming (MMOs and FPS video games and some P & P, mostly AD&D [1st and 2nd ed.], Shadowrun, and a few of our own we cooked up), renaissance festivals, blacksmithing (hence this page), writing sci-fi (which I will be posting here at some point as soon as I can divy it up enough to fit the tightassed DA requirements on size) and modern Dresden-ish occult novels, building model castles and the like (my secret geeky obsession), and so on. I also do geopolitical analysis and such, but that's related to work, not fun, so it doesn't count as a hobby I guess.

Music and the like: hell, I listen to just about anything but rap/hip-hop and country. 1940s big band music, traditional Irish music (whadaya expect, I'm a Gael, it's genetic), industrial, classical, techno/electronica (like I said, eccentric), heavy metal, jazz, and so on.

Television and movies: sci-fi, some horror (true horror, not that Saw crap), fantasy, etc. Faves right now are Royal Pains, Burn Notice (amusingly accurate in many ways), and so on. Most of my television watching is Discovery channel stuff, especially Science channel. Yeah, I'm a geek.

Anything else you wish to know will require generous libations of cheesecake and eggnog as the sugar rush I had when starting this is wearing off...

  • Listening to: the Tudors soundtrack *shrugs* I like it, sue me
  • Reading: err... what I am writing :-P
  • Watching: my monitor

Fascinating profile! Love the blacksmithing. :)
:iconbreandan-ociarrai:
Thanks :-)
I want to see the art spread more, and be exposed to a wider audience. A lot of folks out there have the talent to do it, and I'd rather see it become a growing art rather than a dying one as it had been until recently.

I know of two or three people down here in Tasmania who do traditional blacksmithing, but there isn't a huge interest or market in it.
